2023 in Pisticci…..painting my house….not according to plan….

I dreamed about it. So when I got up I made a cup of coffee.( Everything feels better after coffee or alternatively any feelings before coffee should be ignored.)

It seemed like the best idea would be to begin right away at 6.30am while it was cool and I hadn’t time to come up with a reason to do it another day.

6 .30am ….before….

So armed with my homemade brush taped to curtain pole , the pot of white paint and a large plastic cover I bravely stepped out into the street.

And then the unexpected happened. I opened the paint and it was brown on the top and the consistency of half baked scones. This was slightly weird.

I tried to stir it , but it was really difficult as it was basically in chunks.

I could I suppose have given up at this point and taken the paint back to the shop, but it was so heavy! And maybe paint is supposed to be like that. ( I don’t think so?)

So I stirred on with a hollow metal tube wishing I had a big mechanical mixer wotsit.

Then a lump of paint shot out the end of the hollow tube. I’m sure that’s not supposed to happen.

Lump of paint sticking out end of stirrer tube.

I decided to add some water and then to pour some of the more manageable paint into a basin. That way it was easier to mix and I made something closer to the consistency of paint.

Ignoring my neighbour who was busy cutting tiles or something I stuck the paint brush into the basin and set to covering the wall in white paint.

It was not at all simple as the brush wobbled on the end of the pole and I had to more or less scrub the wall with it.

However it did reach the top.

State of the brush now.

And I had had the intention of making the wall look better not perfect.

I wasn’t aiming too high.

Just before the brush fell off the pole I “finished”.

After….better….

I kept going outside afterwards to see if it looked okay…and convinced myself that it was better.

“Finished” at this point only meant painted down to where I could easily reach and above my painted flowers.

This afternoon I painted the bottom part, touched up the flowers and would appear to have reached my goal.

Definitely better.

I’ve mixed up some of the white paint and put it in jars. The remainder is still in lumps in the big pot.

Organised paint

I feel like a success. It didn’t exactly go as planned…..but ……

I think I deserve a large glass of wine now.

Cheers🍷🍷
