Today has been difficult. I was sad to say goodbye to Katy at the airport.
Then I got a taxi to the railway station which was 5 euros dearer as it was Sunday.( I’ve just checked that and it seems to be normal. )
I noticed that quite a few trains were cancelled …..then I saw the strike notice.
I wasn’t sure what to do as some trains were running. The Italo train which I had booked to go to Rome and back to pass the time instead of waiting until after 1pm at Napoli Centrale was not on strike.
So I thought that as I’d paid for it I might as well go and at least Id have a comfy seat for a few hours. I considered staying in Rome overnight , but hotels were quite expensive.
And it was possible that the train from Naples to Potenza would be one of the ones still running.
But no!.
So I decided to book a room in Naples instead. I found somewhere which was supposed to be near the station. However when I had booked I found it was a 36 minutes walk. Didn’t seem very close to me.
I decided that I’d get a taxi there and then walk back tomorrow and finally see something of Naples.
Oh dear! Even though I was trying to be very sensible I should have checked out the area.
I’m not very fussy, but it was scary horrible, rundown and I stood out looking like a tourist. I tried to phone the owner three times but it said the number didn’t exist.
At this point I decided to leave and luckily found a main road. Only had to ask about 6 people before I found my way back to the railway station.
It might have been that there was a nice little place round a corner, but the combination of the wrong number and seriously scary place was too much.
I didn’t sleep much last night which didn’t help.
It only took me 20 minutes to get back to the station.
By now I just wanted to go home.
There was a bus supposedly leaving from somewhere at 5pm which would have taken me nearly home, but I couldn’t find anyone who knew where. Also there were enormous queues of people all wanting advice.
At this point I decided I’d just go look for a hotel and pay whatever.
And I was lucky. I found one just 2 minutes from the station. I’ve got an ensuite room and a balcony. ( and aircon) It has been about 30C here . All for 45 euros for the night.
I’m in the room and don’t plan to go out until morning. I’ve got a peanut butter sandwich, crisps and a small bottle of wine.
I’m not any keener on Naples than I was before.
But I’m so happy to be safe and have a bed for the night.
I should get home about 2.30pm tomorrow.
Now I’m planning to drink the small ryanair bottle of wine which I refilled from the local Meta bottle.
I thought I might need it as it was going to be a long day. …
Cheers🍷🍷
