I spent several hours this morning trying to decide what I could paint in the competition  tomorrow.

Eventually I decided that I’d try and paint a copy of one of Gwen John’s self portraits. I think she is my favourite artist. I’ve read her life story and when I first found her paintings I loved them. I liked the colours, the portraits and the scenes with the chair beside the window.

I found a video with 77 of her paintings . Lovely!

I thought that maybe I’d use charcoal, which gave me a reason to go out to the Meetmarket and buy some putty erasers.

But sadly the competition is now cancelled due to a death.

I’ve also been preparing for the big painting …..which I suppose I could now begin tomorrow. 

I’ve got a folder full of photos of food on my phone all ready to use.

I need to remember that this big painting is supposed to be fun.

After lunch I thought I’d have a little practice with charcoal in my sketchbook.

Then the little black cat came for a visit again.

And finally I’ve moved the big canvases so that they are ready to paint.

Now it’s wine time.

I keep watching episodes of Midsomer Murders , but going to bed before the end.
