And it was all going so well…..

I got up at 5.30am and by 7.30am I was finishing the big tile painting. ( it was too dark to start before then.)

After an hour I was finished.

And an hour later I decided to apply the first coat of varnish. .

It seemed to be going on fine until I realised that in parts the paint was coming off. Not everywhere…..but  here and there.

Aaaagh!!!!

Panic!!!

After getting over the first ” Oh no, what am I going to do now!!!”

I decided the first thing to do was to let the varnish dry and not keep touching it to see if any more paint was coming off.

Eventually the varnish dried.

It looked like there had been a problem with the white paint adhering to the surface.

After some hair pulling and thought and a small test, I covered all the parts where the paint had come off with gesso and waited for it to dry. Then painted over it using another brand of white paint.

I also did something very silly which took ages to fix, but am too embarrassed  to say what it was. 

I’ll varnish it again tomorrow.

I’m not now going to do the art competition  as I thought I might be having to repaint the whole thing.I still don’t know if it’s going to be okay.  That’s a pity.

It’s taken me ages to get round to writing this tonight.

Apart from the ” little problem” I enjoyed doing the washing, stroking the little black cat, being outside without being too hot,  reading a lot…to keep myself from poking at the painting to see if it was dry, and I got 6 lovely fresh eggs from my neighbour.

Now it’s wine time.
