Tricky subject. After showing a friend the finished version today was told that it didn’t look much like me. When shown the photo they agreed it was very like the photo.
I don’t really know what I look like. I know some photos make me look interesting and a bit cool. I chose to believe that I look like that. Others, less flattering I consider it must have been bad lighting.
This series of photos taken wearing scarves are not very flattering, but they are firstly about practising portraits and hands…..though obviously I wouldn’t complain if I looked good. However if I can capture the expression I was trying to portray as well as get a likeness to the photo then that will do.
I miss never having learned properly how to paint faces. I’ve just been muddling along for 20 years and learning as I went.
I am enjoying very much using my neocolours again. ( they’re water mixable wax crayons ….and quite expensive.) There is something liberating about scribbly drawing with them. And then being able to paint over them.
This morning I finished yesterday’s portrait.

After lunch I painted another 3 round canvases black and then began the next portrait. It’s definitely not flattering, but it should get ” better” tomorrow.

I’m looking forward to working on it tomorrow.
Now it’s wine time and Sunday vlogs. Hurray.
Cheers🍷🍷
