2026 in Pisticci…fun with charcoal…

Following the advice of the AI lady from Sardinia I headed out for a walk this morning. It had been raining.

The light was lovely.

This was the scene I drew recently, but no mist that time. Or shadows.
Pretty roofs….
Scottish weather….a bit of everything.
Nicer looking the other way.

On the way home I went for a coffee in the Genesi bar. It was a work of art……

My favourite  coffee.

The nice girl who made it showed me photos of other designs she has made which were really clever and pretty. She uses a sort of pen and draws them by hand. I was very impressed.

Back home, and because I’ve bought some more charcoal equipment, I thought I’d better keep going. So I watched another video and painted along. ( I’m learning so much. )

Copied , roughly, the style of the Mad Charcoal guy. It was very useful for working out the position of features…..but I think the mouth is not quite right.

After lunch I found some free photos on Unsplash.

This was fun to do.

The eraser pen was worth buying. I only used willow charcoal sticks for this.

When I was watching another video I noticed that the guy drawing had a bigger tablet to show his reference photos.

I remembered that my wine drowned laptop actually can be used as a tablet.

Theoretically I can fold the keyboard back flat, but every time I did, I accidentally  pressed something and the photo disappeared. However compared to my little tablet it’s  quite a lot bigger.

So it’s  been quite a satisfying day. I’ve two more portrait photos to draw tomorrow. Next week it will be a calanche commission in acrylics. But I think I’ll keep going with charcoal as well, at least for a while.

Wine time now. Finished  Seven Dials. Preferred the book, though the cars were nice.

Cheers🍷🍷
