This last period has been a bit of a learning curve for me. I started by painting some scenes from venice because I love the colours and I wanted to paint a bit more loosely and not feel I had to put in every detail. Its not very easy at all to do that and I was a reasonable failure . I have been so admiring painters such as Kelly Medford and Haidee jo summers who both paint from life and wishing I could be more confident and less twiddly ( artistic jargon).
But I think I discovered- at least for the time being that I prefer to paint from photos (preferably which I take myself so that I know what I want to express.)
I spent ages- or it seemed like it on 4 paintings of venice – vaguely loosely painted and there are bits I like in them all but….. they are not what I had hoped for. I then dashed off 6 paintings of Dirupo (my part of town) which I am much happier with. I am assuming that I learned something while struggling with Venice…….
Will post all of the above. I am also noticing the problems with angles and photos. If you notice the vertical Venice scene- the canvas is actually rectangular but not in the photo. So has been an interesting time.

I am also posting the poster which I designed for the joint exhibition happening this weekend. I am very pleased with it. More about the exhibition next time.
