2023 in Pisticci….slugs and gardenias….

I’ll start with slugs.

Last night I stood on one with my bare foot. Gross!!!!!!!!

It was heading across the rug in my gallery and I should have been wearing something on my feet , but I couldn’t sleep and was on my way to find something to eat for the second time.

It’s  now in the bin.

And this morning I bought a packet of salt which I intend to spread across the doorway .

I didn’t sleep for ages afterwards  as I kept imagining a whole army of slugs heading for my mattress on the floor.

I considered dismantling my bed sofa  which is converted to a table using the metal bed frame. But laziness won out. That, and in all the years I’ve slept there I’ve only stood on one slug.

So I’ve been a bit tired today.

But determined to get the hang of gardenias.

And after tracing, drawing , shading, studying, taking apart and finally experimenting I think I’ve got it.

Traced a printed photo first, in pencil, then ink. Shaded with crayons . Then picked a flower from my garden, took it apart to look at the petals and finally drew some experimental gardenias.

It took some time, in between reading breaks and of course the trip to the supermarket to buy salt.

And I found time to watch some more Portrait Artist of the Year.

But now I’m relaxing before going out tonight to see if anything is happening at the feste.

View from the armchair.

I started wine time a little early while watching a vlog by a Dutch watercolourist. He says so many thing I identify with as an artist. I’m in awe of his drawing skills and have no idea how he makes amazing watercolours out of what looks at first like a splotchy mess.

His name is Titus Meeuws.

I’m waiting until it gets a little cooler to water the flowers. It’s definitely summer weather now.

Cheers🍷🍷 Have a good weekend.
