2024 in Pisticci….not so easy to paint a self portrait……

I finished watching the course on portrait painting by Jonathan Yeo. 8 hours of video. It wasn’t exactly what I had expected, but I have enjoyed it immensely.

It’s a good feeling when I hear an artist I respect and who is self taught talk about things that I’ve struggled with too.

It seemed like a good idea to try out my self portrait set up….including lighting after that.

What I hadn’t reckoned on was on my being left handed so my dead simple idea for a mirror on the table by the window didn’t work. And I don’t want to be moving furniture around.

So I moved all my self portraits off my little painted cupboard in the cold work room and heaved the big mirror out from behind it.

I still haven’t worked out which way to sit and still be able to comfortably paint.

There must be a way…….

It’s been quite an arty online day. I watched another episode of Portrait Artist of the Year at lunch time and then Titus Meeuws’ latest vlog later on. He is practising self portraits, as well as painting the view out of his window.

In between I found time to set up the printer….which won’t connect with the WIFI so I’ve connected it with a USB cable to the old laptop. It works.

Realistically I may as well carry on preparing and organising as I’m off to Scotland on the 16th.( all being well.)

Then I can begin some new projects when I get back.

My work room badly needs tidied up and I need more desk space.

I’m thinking vaguely about a project where I paint more local scenes, but this time with people in them.

Maybe I’ll use the water soluble oil paints…….

I’d love to paint some interiors.

And there’s more…….

But for now it’s wine time .

Cheers🍷🍷
