2023 in Pisticci….making a compost thing…..

It’s my reaction to the bin men not collecting my organic waste.

It’s not good in hot weather to have organic stuff mouldering in the heat. The recycled bag dissolves and there is a mess.

So today as I had nothing better to do I googled ” making compost”.

What a lot of different stuff is written and so many videos. Also there are so many pieces of advice which mention how easy it all is …..and then there is a long list of tools etc needed to make things. I haven’t even got a drill to make holes.

Having filled my head with various bits of advice from here and there I decided it couldn’t be that hard.

And I really like the idea of giving my plants something nice to “eat. “

I found a 5 litre plastic wine container and cut it all the way around the middle. I put tape over the cut edge. ( probably that was unnecessary. )

Then I made some holes in it with a Stanley knife. I discovered that if I cut a small triangle then I could push out the middle. After all holes don’t have to be round.

It seemed that to make compost it was a good thing to add some actual compost. I had a bag hiding behind the door so I added some. Then I got the slightly stinky mouldering stuff from the organic bin and tipped it on top. Covered that with another layer of compost and then spread 2 bits of kitchen roll on top.

After that I taped the top of the container back on. I put it beside the indiferenziata bin, and the watering can which I fill with dishwashing water and looked with satisfaction at my little attempt at saving the planet.

Mostly now I’ll be adding bits of carrot, coffee grounds and eggshells which will all squeeze through the top .

Maybe it’ll work. Perhaps I should paint it black.

I was at Scanzano market this morning looking for something nice to wear on holiday next month.

Waiting for a lift.

Having decided I could stretch my budget to 10 euros there was so much choice. I normally only buy things at 3 euros or less.

I found a nice dress for 6 euros.

Took it in at the top and it fits comfortably. ( I am enjoying being old and can’t be bothered with tight things.) It looks like a copy of something I’d really like. But this way I have the extra money to buy paint and fun things.

I also bought a black sleeveless short linen dress which I thought I could wear over leggings and a rather pretty thin jumper. Then there was the longish nice lacy black top which I thought would look good over trousers and is actually shorts at the bottom. Oops! I might try adjusting them. That was another nine euros in total.

I think I need a project.

Although I’ve had lots of work over the summer and might well get more commissions I’d like to have a more long term personal plan.

I haven’t thought of anything yet.

Now it’s wine time.

Cheers🍷🍷
