2026 in Verona…progress..

I had a plan of sorts for this month. It wasn’t  about sightseeing, eating Italian food or going to musical events in the arena.

Firstly it was a challenge to see if I could go somewhere new and enjoy living there for a month.

Then to keep myself occupied I thought that I could make a book using photos, paintings and some diary writing. It would make a fantastic souvenir.

I thought that the first week would be about exploring. This morning when I was writing I thought that I needed a vague plan for next week or I might get bored.

A series of questions to ask myself seemed like a plan.

I packed my rucksack with my travellers notebook including my new watercolour pencils.

It seemed sensible to go somewhere I could sit for a while.

So now I have 20 questions and suggestions to keep myself occupied next week. And a small round sketch using the new pencils.

Lots of space to sit and write and draw…in the shade.
Interesting view in all directions
This is what I drew.
Was fun, and tried out new pencils.
View of the river.

It was a lovely way to start the day.

Then I wandered off in the direction of Piazza Erbe .

Beautiful  ceiling
So pretty.
Farmers market.
Craft fair in here.
The art gallery is up these stairs. Found by accident as usual.

And equally important, I found public toilets of a reasonable standard.

After my thoughtful morning I decided that I would just paint things that meant something to me. No need to paint views.

This is very much a work in progress. Am using my new watercolour paper and both gouache and neocolours. And I’m enjoying it.

I only went for a short walk tonight. Tomorrow it will be the end of my first week here. Feeling very fortunate.

Wine time now.

Cheers🍷🍷
